Minibus Hire in Iceland
Whatever your plans are for Iceland, our vehicles meet all kinds of needs. If you are planning on heading to Iceland with a large amount of luggage or a big group of people, then our minibusses and passenger vans are ideal. We recommend hiring a vehicle to get around Iceland as it enables you to get to harder-to-reach areas. You can also fit more into your time in the country, as it can take up a lot of time getting to different attractions without a car since there isn’t a strong public transport infrastructure in Iceland. It also means you can adapt your schedule to your own preferences and craft your own adventures.
Requirements for Renting a Minibus or Passenger Van in Iceland
If you want to rent one of our 9-passenger vans, there are no additional requirements beyond those for renting any vehicle with us. You must have a full driver's license from your home country and be over the age of 23 (since these qualify as large vehicles).
To rent a larger minibus, like our 17-passenger Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, you will need to have a special license that allows you to drive vehicles carrying more than 10 passengers. Please check that you meet all requirements before securing your booking.
Van and Minibus Rental FAQs
Q: Can passenger vans and minibusses be driven on all roads in Iceland?
A: You should be able to safely and comfortably traverse most roads in Iceland with a van or minibus, however, they aren’t suited to all roads. Iceland’s F-Roads require 4WD, and these vans do not come equipped with, making them unsuitable for Highland driving. Most well-maintained main roads that are paved and gravel will be fine. All of the main sightseeing routes like the Ring Road, Golden Circle, and Diamond Circle are accessible with these vehicles.
Q: Can I drive a passenger van in Iceland during the winter?
A: Most of Iceland’s main paved routes are maintained throughout the winter, and all of our vehicles come with studded tires for the winter. This means that you can safely drive Iceland’s roads in the winter in one of our vans or minibusses. But always practice caution when traveling - check weather reports and adjust your plans to avoid harsh conditions.
Q: What insurance options are available for passenger van rentals?
A: All of our van rentals come with standard insurance, but we recommend that you add additional cover. Due to Iceland’s rough terrain and unpredictable weather, it’s not uncommon to experience gravel and other types of damage, for which you will have to pay out of pocket if you’ve not opted for additional insurance coverage.
Q: Are child seats available for minibus rentals?
A: Yes, child seats and boosters are available for all of our passenger van and minibus hire vehicles. These can be seen on our extras page, and you can select your required seats during the booking process.
Q: Are there mileage limits on my van rental?
A: All of our rentals come with unlimited mileage, allowing you to enjoy Iceland at your own free will!
Our aim is to provide you with a van that meets all your needs, which is why we include several features in the price of our rentals. We include standard insurance, so you don’t have to worry about expensive premiums. This also includes 24-hour roadside assistance in the unlikely event that something goes wrong with your vehicle. We have a knowledgeable team that is more than happy to offer tips or advice during your trip to Iceland so don’t hesitate to ask us if you have any questions.
